Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to preserve an existing wood deck?

You very well might have an existing wooden deck and are seeing that it may be slowly deteriorating, losing it's color, or rotting. No need to fear, you can still salvage things before it gets to bad! We suggest applying a wood sealant on your new or existing deck. The sealant helps to protect the wood from weather, sunlight, dry-rot, and other moisture issues that can arise with a wood deck. What you're doing is essentially providing natural oils to the wood.

How large should I build my deck?

This is a difficult question to answer as it really is really depends on what you want! In an attempt to give you some insight into the industry, the average deck size in the United States is between 300 and 400 sq. ft. The other thing that we will say is that we often times suggest that your deck be no larger than 20% of your home's total square footage. That is typically a good rule of thumb to follow. But, at the end of the day, it's entirely up to you and what you want! Give our team a call and we can help get you set up with a free no-obligation consultation to really get an idea of what might be best for you and your home!

What is the life-span of a new deck?

This depends entirely on the decking material that you and your family choose! A deck built with untreated wood typically lasts 10-30 years. Decks built with pressure treated wood as well as composite materials can last as long as 50+ years! You will often time's find with composite decking providers that they will provide you and your deck with a 20-year-warranty. Don't let untreated wood decks life-span freak you out either, with proper maintenance and sealing of the wood you can extend the life-span of your wood deck!
